Ireland v Canada – Irish Squads announcement

The Men’s Irish National Team will take on their Canadian counterparts in April as they take part in a three match test series. The series will commence on the 17th of April 2011 at the National Hockey Stadium, UCD, Dublin and will continue in NICSSA, Belfast on the 19th and 20th. The squads for the series has been announced and Paul Revington, Men’s National Coach, spoke of the forthcoming test series and his selection “These test matches against Canada come at a great phase and time in our program. Our squad will be re-united after two months of involvement in their club programs with all players returning highly motivated to add their quality to our Ireland path through Test match performance. KNHB: Dutch Women’s team appoint full time assistant coach

The assistant coach of the Dutch women’s hockey team, Alex Cox, from July 1, 2011 will be employed full-time by the Royal Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB) until the 2012 Olympics in London. At present, Cox, besides his role in the KNHB, is head coach of the MHC Laren Scheeren (Laren) Women 1. In recent months frequent consultation between Cox, KNHB Laren and the KNHB. According to these parties the preparatory program of the Dutch team for the 2012 Olympics so intensive that Cox can no longer combine the two functions. Laren had intended to renew Cox’s contract after it expires at the end of this season. Scottish Hockey to begin search for new CEO

It is with regret that Scottish Hockey announces the resignation of Brent Deans, Chief Executive Officer, Scottish Hockey, effective from 30 June 2011. Following sixteen years service with the organisation, including the positions of Director of Hockey, Performance Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Brent has decided to return to Australia with his family and will be leaving Scotland later this year. Commenting on his impending departure, Deans said, “It has been a tremendous experience to have worked with Scottish Hockey and I’ve really enjoyed my time living in Scotland. However, I feel it is the right time for both my family and I to return to Australia and I think I leave the organisation in good shape for the future. I would like to thank both current and previous staff members for their hard work and support over the years, and those members and volunteers who continue to play such a vital role in hockey development and helping to run the sport.” In making the announcement today, Lee Cousins, Scottish Hockey President said, “I would sincerely like to thank Brent for his commitment and dedication to Scottish Hockey over the last sixteen years. Irish Hockey League Finals, 30th April – 1st May 2011

Finals Weekend on 30th April – 1st May has been announced as Lisnagarvey, following a tender process open to all clubs. The IHA were delighted to have received 6 excellent proposals but only one venue could be selected. The IHL Working Group are committed to moving the IHL Finals around the country to maximise exposure, while seeking to generate sizeable spectator crowds. At the same time, it is important that the event retains a ‘club atmosphere’ where the hockey community can meet up in a convivial social setting. The choice of Lisnagarvey will enable these objectives be met and the IHL Working Group is looking forward to working with the team to what we hope is another fantastic IHL Finals Weekend The venue for the men’s and women’s Wildcards on 6th – 8th May has also been decided with Cork Church of Ireland co-hosting with the IHA. Scotland Under 18 Women face Irish tests at Forthbank

Scotland U18 Women will face Ireland this weekend in a two match series at Forthbank Stadium, Stirling. The first match is scheduled for Saturday 12 March, with the second contest taking place on Sunday 13 March. There will also be a shortened training match scheduled in for Saturday morning. The Scots will utilise a large training squad throughout the weekend, with all squad members expected to play a part in the matches for what will be their first taste of international hockey at this level. Ireland presents a good test for Head Coach Colin Clarke’s charges, with the Irish being the higher ranked nation. Looking forward to this weekend’s matches, Clarke said, “The girls have been working hard in training and throughout the conditioning programme, but this is our first opportunity to see the players compete at international level. We have a training squad of twenty-seven players and everyone will get game-time this weekend. We will be keeping tactics simple and testing various combinations of players.” Of the twenty-seven players named in the squad, there is a strong contingent from CALA Edinburgh, Grove Menzieshill and Milne Craig Clydesdale Western, plus players from Inverleith, Grange, Giffnock,  Kelburne, Borders Fjordhus, GHK, and Granite City Wanderers.
