Scotland Summer campaign kicks off with Celtic Cup

Scotland Senior Women will embark on a busy summer of international hockey this weekend when they play Wales and Ireland in the annual Celtic Cup tournament at thesportscotland National Centre, Inverclyde. Taking place from 3-5 June, the Scots will hope to get the summer off to a positive start when they defend their Celtic Cup title, although the importance of quality preparation time for the squad and the level of performance are the key priorities for head coach Gordon Shepherd this weekend. “The Celtic Cup matches will provide the squad with an important opportunity to come together for the first time since Delhi, so we are really focussing on the time spent in training and increasing the quality of our performances in preparation for the Champions Challenge and Europeans this summer”, said Shepherd. “Players included in recent Great Britain squad have also returned for these matches, so it’s important that we use the Celtic Cup to prepare for forthcoming tournaments, particularly as this weekend will be our last competitive outing before travelling to Ireland for the Champions Challenge.” Shepherd has chosen a familiar and experienced line-up for the competition, with sixteen of the squad who travelled to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi included amongst the eighteen players selected, and the Scots will be quietly confident of making it a quintet of Celtic Cup titles following competition wins in the...

Irish Hockey Launches ESB Electirc Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I

Irish Hockey Association Officially Launch Two Key International Competitions Taking Place at UCD Monday 30th May, UCD:  The Irish Hockey Association today officially launched the ESB Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I and UCD 4 Nations Men’s Hockey Cup this evening at the International Lounge in UCD. The ESB Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I will take place from the 18th to 26th June.  This event is for teams ranked 7 to 15 in the world.  Ireland’s women, currently ranked 15th, will face Spain, India and Azerbaijan ranked 10, 11 and 14th respectively in the FIH world rankings in pool B. Pool A will see Japan, USA, South Africa and Scotland fighting it out for the best seeded position in the classification stages. The UCD 4 Nations Hockey Men’s Cup will take place from the 20th to 25th June.  This will see Ireland currently ranked 18th in the world take on Pakistan, China and France ranked 8th, 14th and 17th respectively. Scottish Hockey appoint Robert Heatly, MBE as CEO

Scottish Hockey is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Heatly MBE as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from Monday 13 June. Heatly, 52, is a former senior Royal Marines Officer (Lieutenant Colonel) with considerable leadership and management experience in a diverse range of matters within the Military, Civil and Diplomacy sectors. He had a distinguished career developing international understanding and maintaining success in a variety of senior level positions, including Head of Royal Navy/Royal Marines Recruiting for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Commenting on his appointment, Heatly said, “I am delighted to have given this fantastic opportunity by Scottish Hockey. Having had a varied, demanding and interesting career in the Royal Marines, I was determined to become involved in sports management.” “While on the surface this may seem a huge change of career direction from the military, there are actually considerable overlaps with the sports industry. I have worked with teams of committed individuals striving to overcome challenges in an environment where teamwork is essential. Many of the qualities required to serve in the military are similar to those faced by committed sportsmen and women.
