26/07/2014 Opening game of the day was Czech Republic v Russia.
As both teams are already relegated to the EuroHockey Junior Championships II it was a game of pride and earning the right to have an easier pool in 2016.
Czech had the better of the opening half scoring after 6 minutes a field goal fom Michela Tlaskakova, but following that the Russians had all the possession and a number of corners, finally converting via Veronika Slozheva just before half time, a thumping strike that rebounded off the backboard. Half time score 1-1
Both keepers played a vital part in The second half with Czech having a great chance to go ahead via a PC in the 42nd minute a double save by the Russian keeper kept the score at 1-1. Russia converted another corner in the 45th minute, another strong strike from Veronika Slozheva, 1-2 to Russia. Russia’s Elena Sazhina continued to cause havoc for the defence as she has done all week, with skilful darting runs, but to no avail. Czech equalised following a nice build up of play and the strike came from Veronika Kasnerova. Czech extended Thor lead via Klara Hanzlova who beat the keeper and picked her spot to strike, the defenders having no chance! Minutes later Klara earned a corner and was on strike, successfully to extend the Czech lead 4-2 with 5 minutes remaining. The final score was 4-2 and a first win for Czech!
