New initiative offers Olympians, business relationships & unique PR opportunities
Thursday 3 March 2011
The England Hockey Board (EHB) has unveiled a new initiative designed to enable businesses to align with the premier Olympic team sport.
Launched this week, The 1908 Club presents companies with an opportunity to share in the national hockey teams’ successes, offering a distinctive range of benefits including the chance to meet Olympic hockey players, develop new business relationships in a social environment and generate unique PR opportunities.
Members of The 1908 Club will also be investing in the future of the sport as money from the club is reinvested in the EHB’s Single System development pathway, supporting the hockey players of the future.
Explaining the thinking behind The 1908 Club, Jonathan Cockcroft, EHB Commercial and Membership Director, said: “We’ve opened the door for businesses to become involved in hockey in an affordable way that delivers them real commercial outcomes.
“By joining The 1908 Club, businesses can form an association with our international teams at this incredibly exciting time for British sport. Our athletes are a fantastic group of engaging individuals with a great passion for what they do. Members of The 1908 Club can share in that sporting passion and use their membership for all manner of activities from PR events and staff engagement to corporate entertaining and networking.
“The great thing about The 1908 Club is that these companies will be supporting the grassroots development of hockey. Because the money raised through
The 1908 Club is reinvested via the Junior Development Fund, more young people will get the chance to develop their hockey talent and achieve their potential irrespective of their circumstances. It will certainly strike a chord with businesses from a corporate social responsibility perspective.”
Named after the year that hockey first appeared as an Olympic sport and in which England won its first Olympic hockey title, The 1908 Club is expected to prove particularly popular with small and medium sized enterprises.
Membership of The 1908 Club is priced at just £2012 + VAT for a period of two years. Anyone interested in joining should visit www.englandhockey.co.uk/the1908club, emailthe1908club@englandhockey.org or call 01628 897500.
