FIH Medical Seminar during the Rabobank Hockey World Cup in The Hague

The following topics will be discussed during the Seminar:
The right/best diet and top sport; do special diets help and how?
The benefit of vitamins and supplements, how to use, what is the danger and how to detect it? Dehydration and the right way to re-hydrate for a hockey player.
What is available to cure diarrhoea in a fast and safe way?
What is the correct food intake and schedule (evidence based if possible) on match day and post-match?
How can we be sure that meat is free of Clenbuterol and other substances?
Speakers will be Prof. Dr R. Witkamp, Division of Human Nutrition, Dr M. Mensink, Nutrition and Sport Department, Ir F. Wardenaar, Sports Dietician. All from the University of Wageningen, Netherlands.
Dr H. Geyer, CEO of the WADA laboratory of Cologne and P. Wefers Bettink MD, Chief Advisor of the FIH Medical Panel.
Mr Leandro Negre, President of the FIH will open the seminar.
“The take home message” there will be several short presentations with essential information, e.g.: FIH research on injuries during major events (these are the best documented). Does Vitamin D help? How does the FIH use the Video Umpire recordings for medical purposes? When to use MRI/Ultra sound and why? Consequences of the new WADA Code for the athletes. Undetected vision problems in top sport athletes. Experience of a Medical Officer – the good and the bad. Short-list for injury prevention. There will be sufficient time for discussions.
