The penultimate day in Vienna at the EuroHockey Championships II

Posted On 19th July 2014

Nothing has been decided in Vienna so far. Sunday will see three true finals on the last day of EuroHockey Junior Championship II for women with Ireland and Italy fighting for the gold medal and promotion, Scotland and Poland battling for 4th place and Austria vs. Lithuania against relegation.
The top game on Saturday ended in an interesting 0:0 between Ireland and Ukraine. Ireland constantly attacking, but some brave defending prevented them from scoring any goals. Now Ireland must beat Italy in the final game on Sunday for the gold medal with both teams possibly being promoted.
Scotland left Belarus no chance in the fight for spots 4 to 6, securing a 5:0 victory. Millie Brown, Kirsten Peters and Emma McGregor (2) scored four goals before halftime. Jennifer Eadie Made it 5:0 with two minutes to go. Scotland now faces Poland on Sunday in a “final” for fourth spot.
Turkey kept their hopes of staying in the Championship II alive with a 2:2 against Lithuania. Turkey scored first when Busra Akin converted a penalty corner in the 33rd minute. Lithuania tied the game with Ugne Aucynaite scoring the 1:1 (45.). In the 60th minute things looked fine for Turkey after Busra Akin scored from another penalty corner. But Lithuania tied the game again with one minute to go with the 2:2 from Dovile Juraite. Turkey will now watch Sundays game between Austria and Lithuania closely. Even a shoot-out between Turkey and Lithuania is possible.
