23/07/2014 – Belgium takes on Germany in the semi-finals at the Fintro Junior EuroHockey Championships after a 7-0 win against Poland. Belgium started the game with very high pressure and the Polish defenders had the greatest difficulties getting the ball to their midfielders. Nine minutes into the game Belgium got its third PC and Alex Hendrickx dragged the well deserved opening goal high in the net. Belgium kept dominating but they missed some great opportunities to up their score, until captain Mathew COBBAERT scored the 2-0 in the 27th minute. On the half time hoother Belgium was awarded a PC after dangerous play by the Polish goalie. Mateusz Popiolkowski saved Hendrickx’s drag but Nicolas DE KERPEL was quick on the ball to score the rebound. After half time Belgium scored four more times. First Thomas VERHEIJEN scored on the rebound as Hendrickx’s drag flick got deflected of the goalies glove. In the Alexander van LINTHOUDT scored the 5-0 with a beautiful reverse stick shot from the top of the circle. Six minutes later Hendrickx got his second on the game on another PC. And seven minutes before half time Tom Degroote scored the 7-0. Popiolkowski denied Verheijen the 8-0 as he made a fantastic save in the final minutes of the game.
