A 9th EuroHockey Junior Championship title for The Netherlands

Posted On 26th July 2014

Since it’s inception in 1997. 8 wins apiece! So who would break the draw and make it 9?
In fact the last time they were in the Final of the EuroHockey Junior Championships, was in Valencia in 2008, Germany came out winners, but that was not the case today!
Germany had the first chance of the game as Charlotte Step Horst hit the crossbar. Of course the Dutch have a wonderful penalty corner striker in their arsenal and Lieke van Wijk scored after 10 minutes, bringing her Tournament tally to an impressive 9. Macey De Ruiter made it 2-0 to The Netherlands in the 17th minute.
Van Wijk had the ideal opportunity to increase the score again after Germany committed an international foul but she failed to convert the stroke.
Germany had a spell of better play in the second half but couldn’t make an impact on the scoreline, in spite of 3 penalty corners in a row. The final quarter of the game saw a more lively performance from The Netherlands but the final score remained 2-0.
Netherlands – Germany 2-0 (2-0)
’10 1-0 Lieke Van Wijk (sc)
’17. 2-0 Macey DE RUITER (sc)
