Second Integration Hockey Tournament in Essen

Posted On 31st July 2014

EHF Vice-President, Carola Meyer, visited the Second Integration Hockey Tournament in Essen, where disabled and able-bodied hockey players play together in mixed teams.
The second integration hockey tournament took place in Essen the last weekend of June. The tournament was organized by ETB Schwarz-Weiss, in cooperation with the Comenius school.  Teams from Bad Durkheim, Monchengladbach, Dusseldorf and the Netherlands competed for victory.

The tournament started with some  bright sunshine, but rain quickly appeared and remained through the day.  This did not tarnish anyone’s mood, however, as the 10 teams gave the fans some very exciting play. Both semi-finals and the final were very closed and had to be decided by penalty shoot-out.

The Dutch team, Upward Arnhem, and  former students of the Comenius School faced off in the final. Upward Arnhem took the victory in the shoot-out, and for the second consecutive year, The Netherlands took the trophy home.

The tournament was sponsored this year by Herbert Grünewald Stiftund and the Wild Man Foundation  and was organized by the Ruettenscheid Foundation.
