C4E Day 2 – Coaching children and having fun!

Posted On 22nd August 2014

The second day of the EHF C4E seminar took place yesterday, and we got up with another participant, Martina Pretretic, who gave us the inside scoop on the seminar’s activities, as well as all the fun they’re having!
The daystarted with Norbert Nederlof and Siegfried Aikman. Norbert introduced us to the hockey philosophy of possession, and he spoke about  how to coach children .He mentioned than hockey tactic begins from players’ decisions, so learning to choose is one of the most important lessons in early hockey practice.
We watched the U14 girls hockey session presented by Norbert who emphasized that children must learn how to hold a hockey stick properly from the beginning, how to keep them interested in training and how to gradually increase intensity.
Later in the day, Siegfried Aikman presented a build up session with the U16 boys,  focusing on the midfielder’s role in games and training, as well as fitness training and its importance.
In the evening, we followed the top men’s training session, presented by Herman Kruis. We had a lively discussion about the coach’s chosen exercises. After a very successful day, we wanted to thank Herman for being such a gracious host, so we gave him a good soaking!
