Sweden – Nayan Youth Cup 2014: 42 teams from 4 countries

Posted On 26th November 2014

Last weekend, 42 youth teams from 4 countries (Sweden, Denmark, Germany and England) gathered in Lund, Sweden, for the 2014 edition of the Nayan Youth Cup indoor hockey tournament. At 42 teams, it was only marginally smaller than the 2009 edition which had a record 44 participating teams.

“It was very successful weekend”, describes Lukas Segelmark, President of the organising club, Lunds LHK Nayan. “The teams had a lot of fun and the tournament was featured prominently in Sydsvenskan, the largest regional newspaper in South Sweden.”
Henry Eriksson, who coached first-time attendees King’s Bruton and also plays for the Swedish Men’s National Team led his U19 boys and U16 girls teams to victory. “It was a fantastic tournament for our pupils to attend. It was a new experience for them and they loved the opportunity to play against European opposition who play a lot of indoor.” For King’s Bruton, Nayan Cup served as preparation for their upcoming county and regional indoor competitions. “We’re only a small school with 330 boys and girls from 13-18 so to see them playing such good indoor is very pleasing. I thought it was a well organised and fun tournament to be part of and thanks to Lukas Segelmark and the entire team involved in making it happen.”
“We’d like to congratulate Lunds LHK Nayan on yet another successful Nayan Youth Cup.”, says Swedish Hockey Association board member Daniel Gass. “Every year this tournament brings together young hockey players from different countries for a weekend of hockey, a truly international sport. The fact that most teams return to Lund year after year is a testament to the hard work by Lunds LHK Nayan and its organising committee”.
A huge congratulations to all from the EHF, in particular Daniel Gass for his wonderful volunteer spirit that he also brings with him to our Communications Committee
