Pool C Classification Games. Hosts Czech Republic end their second day on a high with a well earned win v Belarus. Switzerland and Slovakia share the spoils.

Switzerland v  Slovakia

Switzerland and Slovakia share the spoils.

In the second session this afternoon in Prague, the hosts Czech Republic, Belarus, Switzerland and Slovakia are all playing for classification 5-8. Whilst Czech Republic and Belarus have carried 3 points from the first round of matches, Switzerland and Slovakia are on zero points so this head to head is critical.

Slovakia seemed to have more energy for this game than Switzerland and scored in the first minute of the half, their first of the Tournament KRAMPLOVA with the goal. Austria pressed were awarded 3 penalty corners and a stroke, none of which were converted. However they continued to press and GUEISSAZ converted as she found the smallest of gaps and beat VASOVA. The score was 2-1 at half time.

In a cracking second half both teams came alive and it was a highly entertaining half with both teams believing that they could win the game and take full points. AEBI equalised for Switzerland in the 27th minute and then they went ahead via TRÖSCH from close range. Slovakia went ahead again via a PC from FONDRKOVA and it was neck and neck in the dying moments of the game. With the Swiss keeper off KOMPAUEROVA, SVK, almost had the winner with an excellent pass but she just arrived a little late and a glorious dive yielded nothing. The game remained a draw at 3-3.

Belarus v Czech Republic

Hosts Czech Republic end their second day on a high with a well earned win v Belarus.

The second game of the Pool C and the hosts faced Belarus who will be smarting from missing out narrowly on being in the semi-final. Straight from the whistle Czech went on the attack, scoring from a PC in the first minute of the game. Belarus replied with a well organised dual attack and BELAVUSAVA’s finish was very clean. DESCYOVÁ, CZE took advantage of a beaten keeper and popped the ball into the net to go ahead 1-2. Czech then equalised via a PC, and went ahead again 1-3. Belarus clawed one back and there was another exchange of goals just before the half. Czech finally leading 3-4 at half time.

Just after half time KOLOROVA beat the keeper and HRACHOVA only had to push the ball into an unprotected goal pushing out the score to 3-5 for Czech. Belarus looked challenging as they narrowed the scoreline to 4-5 in the 31st minute. Two excellent chances were squandered by Czech, but in the 38th minute the won a PC the ball popping up in the circle. KOLAROVA converted and a minute later they took advantage of their extra player (their keeper was off) and narrowed the score to 5-6. However Czech answered immediately with a nice goal from KOLAROVA, the score finished 5-7.
