EuroHockey Indoor Club Championship, Women – Day One – Roundup

Posted On 20th February 2015

Play got underway at the EuroHockey Indoor Clubs for Women in Siauliai, Vienna and Ankara.

EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup, Siauliai

Day one started with all 8 teams playing two matches. In exciting Siauliai arena there were many spirited battles as well as few big disappointments. At the Championships I in Siauliai, the favourties, UHC from Hamburg in Germany are in pole position in Pool A, but having drawn with Den Bosch, it’s only by a whisker (one more goal scored!).  Only one team of all have two victories and 10 points, that’s “Club de Campo” from Spain, Madrid. Host team “Gintra-University” after painful and most dramatic loss of day one was against “Slavia” Praha were back on track and smashed Cambrai HC club 7:0. Today there was only one game which ended in a draw – HC’s Hertogenbosch and Hamburg “Uhlenohorster” after great quality match they shared the points. Ukrainian ladies from “MSC Sumchanka” hockey club as well as host team “Gintra-University” after loss in their first game prove that they will fight for place in the final four by winning game against Reading HC ladies 4:2.

EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Trophy

At the Championships II in Vienna, the single pool event got underway with Ritm Grodno setting out their stall early with a win over Antwerp. A closely fought game that was tied at half time. The hosts stamped their intentions on the event with a comfortable win over the Hockey Ireland representatives Ards. Dundee v Mladost were up next and Dundee also claimed all 5 points. It will be an interesting weekend ahead with Arminen, Ritm and Dundee having all won their  games today and are on equal points overnight. The game to watch tomorrow will be Dundee v Ritm – a critical game that may just shake up the final day to see who will be in contention for the coveted prize of promotion for 2016. But plenty of hockey to go and if Wettingen ladies are anything like their men last weekend, they are bound to improve as they settle into the event.

SV Arminen 2 2 0 0 12 3 9 10
