A Sporting Hero – Nikki Symmons

Brussels 19:03:2015 – The EHF is very proud to ask for your help in getting Ireland’s most capped hockey player in Ireland, Nikki Symmons to be voted SportAccord Sport Hero 2015. She is shortlisted with some top athletes including Jonny Wilkinson from Rugby, Karen Drake, Para-cyclist, so really needs your vote! Click here to vote.

She has earned over 200 caps while representing the national team in international competitions, also becoming the most capped female Irish athlete. As captain of the Ireland women’s hockey team, Nikki played in major international tournaments such as the World Cup, European and Olympic qualifiers. She also played cricket for the national women’s team at the international level. She is active champion of the LGBT community, using her position as a national icon to raise awareness about gay people in sports and their rights.

It is wonderful that hockey is shortlisted for this prestigious award and especially Nikki who is a wonderful ambassador for our sport and now a member of the FIH Communications team.
