At yesterday’s General Assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) held in Sochi, Russia, the FIH President Leandro Negre was elected to the ASOIF Council for a four-year period. Leandro received 20 out of 28 votes in the first round.
Following the election, the Leandro said: “I am immensely honoured and would like to thank the ASOIF family for their trust and support. After over six years as FIH President and having served as both a Continental and National Association President before that, I am convinced that I can make a positive contribution for the benefit of all ASOIF members. Our cooperation with ASOIF has always been very fruitful and I am very much looking forward to working closely with the other Council members in a constructive manner.”
The EHF President, Marijke Fleuren was amongst the first to congratulate Leandro and was “very pleased to see his immense expertise and broad base of knowledge as an Olympian and sports administrator at the highest level being now also available not only to hockey but also to the ASOIF family.”
In addition, FIH CEO Kelly Fairweather has been leading the ASOIF Olympic and Multi-Sports Games Consultative Group since 2013. This expert group supports ASOIF’s increased role in connection with the Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games and other multi-sports events like the Commonwealth Games.
