18:06:2015, Brussels: It was with great sadness that we heard the news that Martin Colomer, former President of the Spanish Hockey Federation passed away.
In the words of Jorge Alcover, Vice President of the EHF, Martin was truly a ‘hockey person’, a player, an umpire, an administrator, a servant of hockey.
Martin started his hockey life as a player and went on to represent Spain as an international player. Following his playing career he went on to become an International Umpire and finally went into the administration of the game, becoming President of Catalan Hockey from 1976-1980. He was then elected to the RFEH Board and served as its President from 1996-2008.
With excellent knowledge of competitions he became a member of the EHF Competitions Committee during the 1990’s. His methodical, calm approach coupled with his competitions expertise meant he was a great man to have in the room when consensus was needed over difficult decisions.
In spite of his less than perfect English, he was always looking to build bridges in European Hockey.
For his work on Competitions he was awarded A Diploma of Merit from the European Hockey Federation in 2009.
The President of the EHF, Marijke Fleuren said “I wish to pass on my deepest condolences to Martin’s family and the Spanish Hockey Federation. Martin was the true definition of a hockey man, who served hockey for many years with respect and integrity.” R.I.P.
