Belgium, Ireland, France and Great Britain qualify for the quarter Finals

28.06.2016, Brussels: Men’s quarter-final schedule confirmed in Antwerp and four European teams qualify for the quarter finals.

  • Reigning World champions Australia to meet Ireland, while hosts Belgium to face-off against France
  • Great Britain will play Pakistan while India and Malaysia will go head-to-head as race for HWL Final and Rio 2016 Olympic Games tickets continues

Following the completion of the pool phase at the men’s FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Finals in Antwerp, the line-up for the cross-over quarter-final matches has been confirmed. The top three finishers in the event will not only seal a place at the end of year Hockey World League Final in India but also qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Chris Ciriello scored a hat-trick of penalty corners against India as Australia’s Kookaburras finished top of Pool A, with the Aussies now facing a quarter-final match-up against Ireland, Pool B’s fourth placed team.

In Pool B, a last-gasp winner from team captain John-John Dohmen helped Belgium’s Red Lions take top spot in the pool with defeat of Ireland in front of nearly 5000 fans, with Belgium now set to meet France in the last eight.

The other two quarter-finals – which take place on Wednesday 1st July – will see Great Britain taking on Pakistan and India doing battle with Malaysia as the race for the Hockey World League Final and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games tickets continues.

Men’s quarter-final day will commence with the 9-10 classification match, with the first quarter-final getting underway at 13:00pm local time in Antwerp.

The quarter-finals will take place on  Wednesday 1st July with the running order as follows (local time – CEST):

9th-10th  10:30   Poland  v  China
QF          13:00   Australia  v  Ireland
QF          15:30   Great Britain  v  Pakistan
QF          18:00   India  v  Malaysia
QF          20:30   Belgium v  France
