Tuesday Round up – EuroHockey Youth Championship

07.07.2015, Brussels; As the EuroHockey Youth Championship II in Mori is drawing towards the end of the pool games, another event started, the Boys II in Minsk, a full round-up is below:

EuroHockey Youth Championship II, Girls, Mori, Italy

In a beautiful setting for the public more than 200 spectators enjoyed Mori  as Italy beat Austria 2-1 will advance to the semifinals. In the third day of the European Women’s Under-18 challenge was between the teams in the group B: Ukraine against Wales and Italy against Austria.
Italy did not start very well, although the two teams had a similar number of chances and pressure in the attacking midfield. A defensive blunder allowed Austria to go ahead  1 to 0.The  Italian girls reacted promptly and in the second part of the first half pressed much . Despite the determination of Italy the first half ended with the advantage to Austria. In the second half the Italians started right away in another gear and their technical superiority was evident, although perhaps lacking a bit ‘of fluidity to the game. The rewards, however, drew level with a great goal from Giulia Paolacci.With the same result of the first match Italy won  2 to 1 and are on 6 points.
The other game of the day of the Group B was a clash between Ukraine and Wales. The match was hard fought and the final result of 2 to 2 was a fair reflection of the game.

EuroHockey Youth Championship II, Boys, Calais, France 

Italy and Poland top the Groups in Calais.

Pool A:
Turkey vs Italy : Excellent Team work by the Turkish team led to a 2 :0 in the first 15 Minutes of the game. Italy fought back in style and scored 4 goals in a row to lead 4:2 at Halftime. The second half got even more excited with lots of goals. Italy extended the lead and Turkey fought back. Final score 9:5 in favour of Italy.
France vs Wales: A really exciting match. Great Hockey with teams showing their skill. Wales got an early lead with an equalizer from  France. Wales leading into the final minutes of the game but France got back. What an exciting match.

Pool B:
Switzerland vs Czech Republic: Czech opened the scoring early in the game and were able to control it. Czech have been awarded a Penalty Stroke in the 54th minute and converted it for a 2:0 Lead. Switzerland fighting back and got the 1st goal in the 59th minute. Czech defense were lucky to keep the Swiss Scoring the Equalizer and used the offensive play to score the 3:1 winner just 3 minutes to the End oft he game.

Poland vs Austria: A good game of hockey from the start to the end. Austria opened the score with a Penalty Corner in the 14th Minute. Poland tried to equalize and finally succeeded in the 30th Minute. It was an open match in the second half with chances to score from both sides. Poland got the winner scoring a field goal in the 51st Minute.

Tomorrow Wednesday will be the 1st Rest day. The deciding matches for the Pool Standings will be on Thursday 9th July. Stay tuned

EuroHockey Youth Championships III, Girls, Sveti Ivan Zelina

Belarus and Turkey took the honours today with wins over Switzerland and Gibraltar respectively. That puts them top of the one pool event. With a rest day tomorrow all teams will have time to reassess their positions as they look to the final 3 days of the event. With only one promotional slot on offer, teams will be jostling for top of the leaderboard.

EuroHockey Youth Championships III, Boys, Minsk, Belarus

Ukraine started off the tournament in their game with Bulgaria with a convincing 6-1 win. Bulgaria getting their consolation goal through a penalty stroke when the game was already 6-0. The hosts Belarus also won their opening game after coming back from a 2-0 adverse result at half time to win 4-2 with a very strong second half performance.
