Wednesday update from the EuroHockey Youth Championships

08.07.2015, Brussels; As the boys at the EuroHockey Youth Championships II in Calais and the girls at the Championships III in Sveti Ivan Zelina enjoyed a day off from competition, the girls in Mori played their final pool games and the boys in Minsk played their second day of their round-robin series. 

EuroHockey Youth Championship II, Girls, Mori, Italy: 

The fourth day in Mori was decisive to determine the elimination and promotion pools. In the first match of the day we saw Ireland beating Lituania 2-1: it was a very difficult match for the Irish players, but achieving this result means they are the only team unbeaten in this competition. Immediately after Czech Republic earned a draw with Poland, even though they had a lot of great chances to score the winning goal.
In the afternoon Austria beat Wales 2-0 but the first half the match was really balanced. In the final game of the day Italy lost 3-4 against Ukraine in a breath-taking match where both teams didn’t give up until the end. Both teams enter the promotion pool (Italy obtained it yesterday).
Tomorrow is a rest day  in Mori, but from Friday we will see the promotion pool with  Ireland, Italy, Ukraine and Poland, and in the relegation pool is Czech Republic, Wales, Lithuania and Austria.

Friday’s Games:

09:00   Czech Republic – Wales  – Pool C
11:15     Lithuania – Austria  – Pool C
16:30    Poland – Ukraine  – Semi Final 1
18:45    Ireland – Italy  – Semi Final 2

 

EuroHockey Youth Championships III, Boys, Minsk, Belarus: 

Day 2 – Ukraine and hosts Belarus secure their place in the final

Lithuania Vs Ukraine 0-4

Ukraine dominated the first half and took a 3 nil lead into half time. On resumption they added a further goal to secure their place in the final with one game to go.

Bulgaria Vs Belarus 4-6

Belarus made it tough work to secure their place in the final in an action packed high scoring game against Bulgaria.
Each team share the lead on various occasions only for Belarus to go 5 – 4 up and was able to secure the win and make it 6 -4 with 10 seconds to go.

Like Mori the boys in Minsk will enjoy a rest day tomorrow and will resume on Friday.
