EHF Youth Panel at the Unibet EuroHockey Championships

Posted On 25th August 2015

The European Hockey Federation Youth Panel have been very busy so far during the Unibet EuroHockey Championships. They sent us areport to let us know what they have been up to!

On Thursday  night, the Youth Panel attended the welcome event for the 27th General Assembly.  This was to promote the work of the Youth Panel and to start their recruitment drive to gain new members from as many countries across Europe as possible.

They joined the EHF General Assembly on Friday where the theme of the day was Europe; You’re Up!

The EHF President, Marijke Fleuren, opened the day with this theme and encouraged all of the nations there to find young leaders to join the EHF Youth Panel. The FIH President, Leandro Negre, also talked about the important need for a Hockey Revolution in order to inspire the next generation of hockey players and fans. This was very encouraging for the Youth Panel because there is a lot that they hope to do to help the European Hockey Federation to do this, particularly by representing young people from across Europe.

Yesterday, the Youth Panel met for the first time in 2015 to discuss their plans for the next two years. Topics for discussion were: new strategy, overall mission, goals for 2015-2017 and how to achieve them. Another important topic was the role of the panel members. It was really great to be joined by Mike Joyce, FIH Continental Federation and Academy Manager, and Gabrielle van Doorn, KNHB Equality Manager, to talk about how our plans can link with the FIH and with the 2017 EuroHockey Championships in Amsterdam.

A Youth Congress event will be held at the 2017 Championships to offer training in a number of different areas for as many young leaders from across Europe as possible. The hope is that there would be workshops on coaching, umpiring, social media and marketing, and event management.

Monday – Wednesday, the Youth Panel are supporting the delivery of the Euro ParaHockey Tournament that is running alongside the championships. There are teams from England, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Portugal to play in the tournament with three teams playing in a top pool, and three teams playing in a development pool. The finals of the development pool will be played in the CopperBox on the Olympic Park, and the finals of the top pool will be played on the Unibet EuroHockey Championships competition pitch!

The Youth Panel are supporting the event as liaison officers for each of the teams, and helping with organising the tournament and umpires, and running the social media for the event, and we can’t wait!
