Marijke Fleuren, President of the EHF said “We were very pleased with the success of the EuroHockey5s trial at the Mediterranean Cup this year. Thanks to the Malta Hockey Association and the EHF Youth Panel the event had all the passion, excitement that we had expected from this event. It was also clear that having joint gender events builds a real sense of ‘event’ for the athletes. Teams support eachother and a healthy rivalry that you would expect at all sports events is created! We are really excited that all of our Youth events in 2016, both Under 16 and Under 18 are joint gender events. There is no doubt that the athletes, the future heroes of our sport will take home memories both on and off the field. The events themselves will be bigger, bolder and packed with some noisy fans! 2016 is The Year of the Youth in Europe and I am very excited about that and the impact that these events will have to inspire the next generation of hockey players and fans!”
