For this first day of the EuroHockey Indoor Championships II, the teams showed up, full of excitement, at the Vanpoulle Indoor Hockey Pitch, at Cambrai. Once there, hundreds of children from ten schools of all around Cambrai showed their support for the EuroHockey Championship. We received 200 in the late morning, and 800 just after midday for the debut of the French team where, as from the beginning of the game, France showed strong domination over their Welsh rivals.
In Pool A, with two broad victories, Lithuania made an excellent start in the competition –highlighting the outstanding performance of Jurate Juodyte who scored 5 goals today- and are guaranteed to play the semi – finals. On the other hand, Scotland tied against Switzerland and still doesn’t give up hope of making it to the first positions. Switzerland has also showed a lot of security on the pitch –with incredible 8 scores of Karin Bugmann- but has a tough match tomorrow against Lithuania. Finally, Croacia left with two defeats, so tomorrow the main objective is to try to maintain their presence in the division.
In Pool B, France and Russia have defeated their opponents and are guaranteed to play tomorrow in the search of making it to the 1st division. Indeed, after the great success of France against Wales, the team once again confirmed their strength in the final match against England, on a tight score 3 to 2. For what’s left, Russia has made a very strong impression with a very high quality defensive block, 5 goals from their scorer Borisova and therefore made it through with 2 wins over Wales and England.
