Day 2- EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup – morning session

Posted On 13th February 2016

At the second day of the EuroHockey Club Champions Cup here in Hamburg it was a fascinating morning, especially the Pool B games, as all 4 teams were still in contention for a semi-final place!

Game 9 Arminen v Grunwald 3-3 (0-2)

In a tight, well matched game, both teams had the chance to qualify for the semi-finals so the stakes were high and so was the quality of the game. Grunwald opened the scoring in the 11th minute and then again just before the half-time break, the score very much in their favour 2-0. Arminen then clawed one back, but not until the 30th minute and then a classic, hard fought 10 minutes of indoor hockey ensued. In the final moments of the game Sebastian EITENBERGER, scored from play and equalised, little did we know that that goal would prove historic and earn Arminen the right to a shootout v East Grinstead!

Game 10 – East Grinstead v Complutense 4-2 (2-0)

In a game dominated by East Grinstead and in particular, Scot, Ross Stott, who scored a hat-trick, Complutense played a very defensive game, patiently waiting for the breaks in play. Being 3-0 behind and out of the semi-final they opted for a power play and pushed high, they were rewarded with a goal to bring the score to 3-1. But Stott extended the lead to 4-1 and again the power play earned a PC in overtime and another goal for Nevado, but it was too little too late and the score ended 4-2.

For the first time in the history of EuroHockey Indoor the Pool ended for East Grinstead and Arminen totaly tied on matches won, goal difference, goals scored and they had drawn against eachother so we will have a Shoot Out to determine who will end first and second in the Pool!

Game 11 – HTHC v Slavia Praha 4-2 (2-1)

As expected the hosts too no chances against the Czech team and pushed very hard in the first half, however Slavia matched them play for play with Jakub Kyndl once again on target from the penalty corner spot. However Korper extended the HTHC lead (his 8th of the event) just before the half time and in the second half the lead was extended again. Slavia fought back to 3-2 and were always a threat but the final score was 4-2 in favour of HTHC and top Pool standing of 15 points
