EHF Youth Panel in action in Greece! #EHFYP

Posted On 20th April 2016

20th April 2016, Brussels: As the EHF Youth Panel is currently recruiting new members, here’s a fantastic example of the work of our youth leaders in their own country! Never underestimate the youth leaders in your midst and encourage them to be a part of your club, region and country!

Youth Panel members from Greece Aggelis Giannakopoulos and Kostas Tsiamis staffed a Hockey Camp during April between Greece and Cyprus youngsters and linked this with a Vets match also. Intergenerational co-operation at its best. Have a read of their efforts, which are impressive:

Day 1 of 2 of the Athens Hockey Camp 2016:

A day full of hockey for our youngsters, something they had yet to experience up until today. Everything went according to plan. The kids learnt new skills and bonded very well as a group. After a seven hour stretch of hockey with about an hour and a half of a break in between, they are all exhausted and looking forward to having a shower and going out for dinner.
The day ended very well with an exciting tournament composed of six mixed teams that each played against each other. The tournament will continue tomorrow where the teams will play the second round.

The players from Cyprus found the water based pitch fascinating and enjoyed every moment of it as they are used to the sand based pitch in Nicosia.

Day 2 of 2 of Athens Hockey Camp 2016:

Another long and demanding day full of hockey. The younger generation enjoyed a game of Cyprus versus Greek veterans which regardless of age proved they can still play a competitive and enjoyable game with many goals and impressive runs. We hope the new generation now realise that there is a long future for them in hockey and that they continue to show their enthusiasm.

The camp was pumped up by the latest music hits and beats provided by the two DJs that were present during both days, as expected there were the occasional dance moves by coached and players.

The tournament from day one continued with a pace even higher then yesterday with all six teams all eager to get the best possible result. The different skills they were taught throughout the two days were seen applied quite frequently in the mini matches meaning they got as much out of the camp as possible.

The Greek and Cypriot groups seemed to have blended very well and new friendships have been made which will make the experience for them even more unforgettable. After the huge success of the camp the presidents of the two associations mentioned at the ending ceremony that this was only the beginning and there is much more to come in the upcoming future.
