#FridayFocus – C4E, Officials and U4E in Breda 2016 preview

Posted On 22nd July 2016

This Friday, we’re focusing on the biggest EHF Educational event of the year: the Breda Weekend. Every year in August, Push Hockey Club hosts the Push Hockey Trophy, which brings youth teams together for a weekend of competition. This year, the Push Hockey Trophy will be held 27th – 29th August and EHF will be sending three separate groups to officiate, umpire and learn.

Coaches – C4E

The Coaches 4 Europe programme was the first to join this tournament a few years ago. The group of mentors and coaches will arrive in Breda a few days before the start of the tournament on the 25th and work on finalising their FIH Academy Level 2, the first half of which they completed in their previous seminar in Rome. This group will be led by programme coordinator Norbert Nederlof, as well as EHF Education and Development Manager Norman Hughes, and other conductors such as Tomislav Jamicic, Siegfried Aikman and Grahame Mansell-Grace.

Officials – Judges Seminar (SNG)

The Supporting National Growth Judges seminar aligns itself with the three tier structure of the Coaching and Umpiring Education programmes. Beginning in 2017, all officials awarded an EHF appointment are required to attend or have attended a course. The Officials will work to help TD Rogier Warris officiate the tournament, learning on the job. The seminar will also have a classroom component as the 32 participants will be split into groups and rotate in and out of the pitch and classroom. EHF Education committee members Edna Rutten and Barbara Morgan will lead the seminar as they did last year, alongside new addition, Sonja-Annabel Schwede.

Umpires – U4E

The Umpires 4 Europe programme has been a part of this tournament for the past 3 years, making its fourth appearance this year. This is a special year for the umpires, as the Umpiring Pathway brings UDP trials to Breda for the very first time. 33 umpires will attend the Breda weekend, where they will umpire all the matches being played, have one-on-one mentoring and for those wishing to be considered for UDP, there will be a group of assessors from the Education and Appointments Committee who will observe and grade the umpires. This year, the mentors will be Belen Gonzalez, Tamas Hermann, John Heron, Jean-François Stappaerts, Pierre-Philippe van Besien and Mirjam Wessel. EHF Education Committee member and Umpires Working Group Chair, Paul Box-Grainger , UDP Lead Eric Denis and EHF Appointments Committee Secretary Yolande Brada will also be present.
