Competitions Committee Outdoor meeting, Cologne, Germany

The EHF Competitions Committee, Outdoor held their 2016 autumn meeting in the Guest House of the German Sports University of Cologne, Cologne (GER) on Saturday 3rd September.

 The Committee dealt with a huge agenda, starting with matters arising from their previous meeting.

They were delighted to note the successful launch of the Future Heroes Cups – EuroHockey5s, with positive reports coming from the 3 venues. Recommendations will now be made to the FIH following the 2016 events. The EuroHockey5s that will take place in 2017 will be direct qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games in 2018.

The Committee reviewed the 2016 events and thanked all the EuroHockey organisers who delivered the events and the volunteer officials who had ensured safe and fair events for the athletes. Recommendations were taken into consideration and discussed for future events. 

Applications to host EuroHockey Club events 2017:

The Committee was delighted to note the number of applications to host for 2017. Much consideration was given to the offers to host and after a full discussion the club hosts were approved. 

The hosts for 2017 EuroHockey outdoor club events will be announced on Wednesday 7th September 2016 at 14.00 CET. 

Applications to host EuroHockey5s events in 2017:

The Committee has prepared a proposed list of hosts to be considered by the EHF Board when it meets on 16th and 17th September. Hosts will be announced following this Board meeting.

EHL 2016/17:

The Competitions Manager updated the committee on the planning for Round 1 of the EHL in addition to a verbal report on the ABN AMRO Junior EHL.

Regulations and Event Manuals:

A full discussion took place on updates that are required to the EuroHockey and EHL Regulations and Event Manuals. The Competitions Manager will now implement the agreed changes.

Next meeting:

The next meeting is planned for early March 2017 in Brussels.

The Chairman, Bjorn Isberg thanked Ulrich Forrster and the DHB for organising the meeting. After the meeting, the Committee was treated to  a tour of  Cologne Cathedral from former German International and Gold Medalist Eduard Thelen (Gold in München 1972).
