#FridayFocus – UDP Group 11 welcomes its mentors Jean Duncan and Marc Knülle

The UDP family keeps on growing!

The European Hockey Federation is happy to announce the newest mentors for its newest UDP Group 11: Jean Duncan (SCO) and Marc Knülle (FRA).

We happily welcome back to the UDP fold Jean Duncan, who served as UDP Lead 2011 – 2015, and who mentored Group 5.

Jean began her career as an umpire in 1998 and officiated at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, and has been to two Hockey World Cups (Perth, 2002 and Madrid, 2006) as well as many other prestigious tournaments. She is now an Umpires Manager, most recently being appointed to the Unibet EuroHockey Championships in London in 2015.

Jean shared her feelings on her return as a UDP mentor: “I am looking forward to working with UDP Group 11 and my fellow mentor Marc. We have a great group of talented young umpires and it’s an honour and privilege to be their mentor and help them on their umpiring journey.

A new addition to the UDP family, Marc Knülle  is a long standing member of the hockey family at large. He is a  Grade 1 Indoor and Outdoor umpire who has officiated at many EuroHockey events, the World League, and World Cup and Olympic qualifiers. He continues to be active in France and Germany, umpiring locally and mentoring local umpires.

Marc is keen to get started and told us: “From Sofia to Barcelona and from Cardiff to Vienna, what a great group of upcoming young umpires from all over Europe. With a Scottish and a French mentor,  we will give them some Celtic skills to guide through the challenges ahead!”

EHF Education Committee Chair and EHF Executive Board Member Inez Cooper said: “I am delighted to see the completion of UDP Group 11 with the appointment of the mentors. We are fortunate Jean and Marc are prepared to step forward and take on this important role to support and guide our next generation of umpires. We wish the mentors and the group the best of success and hope they get as much from the programme as they put into it!”

Applications for the Umpiring Pathway (through which selections for the next UDP group will be made) will go out in the next few months so make sure to watch this space!
