19th February 2017: Final Day at the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy! During the final day in Siauliai the teams had to play their two remaining games, which would prove to be decisive in this competition.
In the early morning a significant victory for MJV Dundee Wanderers against Partille 4:1 was vital for them, whilst Lille Metropole HC and Ards Ladies’ game ended in a draw – 2:2.
In 40 minutes of playing hosts Gintra-Strekte-University could not penetrate the compact East Grinstead defense and their solitary early goal gave EG a very important victory of 1:0.
A fierce battle commenced between Partille SC and Ards Ladies. Before the match Swedish girls knew that they must to win in order to keep their place in the Trophy division, but a strong finish by the Northern Irish team did not let that happen. Partille SC lost decisive game 1:4 and their place in the Trophy division.
MSC Sumchanka again proved their top ranked position overnight was not by chance. The Ukrainian club smashed Dundee Wanderers and Gintra-Strekte-University by scores 4:1 and 5:1 respectively and became deserving champions of Eurohockey Indoor Club Trophy Women 2017 in addition to a ticket to the 2019 Championship Division.
Dundee Wanderes will join Sumchanka in the Championships as they finished second in the competition.
The bronze medals was awarded East Grinstead, following a disappointing final day’s performance Gintra-Strekte-University, the hosts, finished in 4th place and out of the medals.
