A Supporting National Growth Umpiring seminar was held in Volgodonsk (Rostov Region) in Russia last week, 18 – 20 April. Umpire Manager JuanMa Requena (ESP) was on hand to conduct the seminar, where the U18 Girls Championship was being played.
16 umpires (8 men and 8 women) attended the seminar, which came about following a meeting last year at the FIH Congress in Dubai between Mikhail Mokrushin, General Secretary of the Russian Hockey Federation and Norman Hughes, EHF Education and Development Manager.
Juanma arrived in Russia fresh from his appointment at the EHL KO16 in Eindhoven. Juanma covered a variety of topics with the umpires including
- Interpreting the rules
- Time Management
- Positioning
- Decisions and presentation
- Interacting with your partner umpire
- Relationships with players and coaches
Grigoriy Minaev (Head of the RHF Umpiring Committee): “The seminar was very useful. It’s great that it was conducted by highly qualified Umpire Manager. Hope that it’s a good start of Russian umpires improvement.”
Mikhail also conducted a short interview with Juanma about the seminar, video below:
