Countdown to EHCC2017, meet Surbiton’s Georgie Twigg

Posted On 29th May 2017

29th May 2017: As we head into the final fews days before the EuroHockey Club Cup, EHCC2017,  we were lucky enough to grab a few moments with Olympic Gold Medalist, GB superstar and core player for England’s Surbiton.

So Georgie, we have been chatting with the heroes of the some of the other teams, it’s great to get a few moments with you to pose the same kind of questions, what does it mean to be playing for Surbiton in the EHCC?

“It’s a real honour playing in this prestigious tournament. I love playing for Surbiton and hopefully this year we can step up against the top European sides.”

With two  EHCC’s under your belt with Surbiton, what’s the approach this year?

“We’ve been disappointed with our performances the last two years and winning that first game is key for us so that is what we’re really focussing on this year.”

You’ve had a lot of recent success especially with GB, what advice would you give to young female hockey players aspiring to get to this level?

“Keep working hard as people reach success at different ages but most of all keep enjoying it.”

Apart from your playing (that’s a given) what do you bring to the team?

“I’d hope people would say I’m a real team player, getting on with everyone, having a laugh but also a leader.”

As you know one of the most important challenges that we currently have is to grow hockey’s fan base, what would you say to someone who has never watched hockey?

“It’s such fast, skilful and exciting game to watch. Also more importantly anyone can play it, any age, gender, capability, everyone can get involved!”

Huge thanks to Georgie, who has joined Nikki, Maria, Sarah and Janne as our 2017 EHCC Heroes!
