European Club weekend kicks off with Challenges in Gibraltar and Porto!

June 1st 2017 – A full weekend of club hockey is coming our way, and first up we have the EuroHockey Club Challenge II (Men) in Gibraltar and the EuroHockey Club Challenge III (Women) in Porto.

EuroHockey Club Challenge II, Men, Gibraltar

Host Grammarians HC is ready to welcome the 6 other competing teams, all looking to gain that coveted promotion spot.

Servette HC v Clube de Futebol Uniao de Lamas (POR) 6-0

The tournament kicked off with Switzerland’s Servette HC facing off against Portugal’s Lamas. Lamas held strong for the first 15 minutes, but Servette kept pushing and got the first goal on the scoreboard at 24 minutes.

After that, it was a steady stream over the next 30 minutes, with five more goals cementing Servette’s victory. Special mention to Juane Garreta for scoring three of the 6 goals!

HAHK Mladost (CRO) v Grammarians HC (GIB) 2-2

The second and last match of the tournament’s opening day saw a great crowd turn out for the host, Grammarians HC, take on Croatia’s HAHK Mladost. Grammarians opened the score within 2 minutes, to the crowd’s great appreciation!

But HAHK Mladost was quick to return, and had equalised within a few minutes. In the third quarter, HAHK Mladost started strong and got the lead. But Grammarians fought back hard and managed to equalise in the last quarter, thanks to a penalty corner executed by Karl Lima.

 

EuroHockey Club Challenge III, Women, Porto

Our former Club of the Year Winner Grupo Desportivo do Viso plays host to the last women’s division.

HAHK Mladost (CRO) v AZS Politechnika Poznanska (PIR) 0-9

The tournament kicked off with a bang for Poland’s AZS, who made their presence known within the first five minutes and dominated for most of the game. Magdalena Zagajska scored a hat trick, with  Wiktoria Blaszyk scoring two goals of her own.

Zueverda Tauras (LTU) v Grupo Desportivo do Viso (POR) 6-0

The host met Lithuania’s Zueverda Tauras for the last match of the day. After a cautions first quarter, Zueverda Tauras turned the pressure on and began a steady stream of goals! Kotryna Kartanovic and Deimantė Stankute each scored twice for the Lithuanian side.
