Men
EuroHockey Club Challenge I, Men, Vinnitsa
SC Stroitel Brest (BLR) v Penarth HC (WAL) 10 – 1
Stroitel Brest came ready to make a statement, in this opening game in Vinnitsa. Scoring the first goal within the first 2 minutes, Brest made its presence known and gave Wales’ Penarth HC little break. Mikhail Paulovich (#2), Vitali Zyshchyk (#9), Anton Sizhuk (#25) and Stsjapan Sizhuk (#31) scored 2 goals each.
TJ Plzen Litice (CZE) v HK Zelina (CRO) 1-0
A matched game from the Czech team TJ Plzen Litice and Croatia’s HK Zelina. A lot of back and forth, but both teams cautious in their opening game. Litice managed to score towards the end of the second quarter securing an important victory.
AD Lousada (POR) v FHC Akademik Sofia (BUL) 10 – 2
Another high scoring game here in Vinnitsa, with AD Lousada putting in a very strong performance. Akademik Sofia did not give up and managed to get two goals in the last two quarters but it was simply too little too late. Impressive performance by Lousada’s Ricardo Teixeira (#10) who scored 5 field goals!
HC OKS-SHVSM Vinnitsa (UKR) v Slagelse HC (DEN) 7 – 1
The host HC OKS-SHVSM Vinnitsa began the tournament to the delight of their supporters by besting Denmark’s Slagelse HC. Opening the score in the 17th minute, the Vinnitsa side kept up the pressure, scoring 6 more goals. Slagelse managed to get one on the board, but it had little effect.
EuroHockey Club Challenge II, Men, Gibraltar
Day 2 in Gibraltar, with 2 more matches.
KPH Raca (SVK) – Servette HC (SUI) 2 – 2
A very even game from the Slovakian KPH Raca and Swtizerland’s Servette HC. After a scoreless first quarter, Servette gained the lead with two goals in the second quarter. Raca narrowed the difference before the half time whistle and tied the game at the top of the third quarter. Plenty of back and forth, but no team could get ahead.
Gaziantep Polisgücü SK (TUR) – HAHK Mladost (CRO) 3 – 1
Debut game today for the Turkish side, Gaziantep Polisgücü SK. HAHK Mladost needed a win, as they tied their game against the host, Grammarians HC, yesterday evening. But the Turkish side pushed harder and in the third quarter, their efforts lit up the score sheet: two quick goals by Gaziantep’s captain, Mehmet Demirel (#10), closely followed by a third goal (all in the space of 4 minutes!) gave Gaziantep the upper hand. HAHK Mladost scored before the final buzzer but it was simply not enough.
EuroHockey Club Challenge III, Men, Lipovci
Nacka LHK (SWE) – Kringsja Sports Klubb (NOR) 1 – 0
A quiet but hard-fought start in Lipovci today! Nacka LHK converted a penalty corner in the 4th minute, and then defended its narrow lead for the rest of the match. Norway’s Kringsja made several attempts to even the score but they were not successful.
Asteras Agion Anargiron HC (GRE) – Qormi HC (MLT) 3 – 1
After a slow start by both teams, Greece’s Asteras Agion Anargiron rallied towards the end of the second quarter with a goal one minute before the half time whistle. Re-energised by their lead, two more goals followed in the next quarter. Qormi HC got a goal in before the fourth quarter and continued to fight to reduce the difference but the Greek side held strong.
Soerbymagle HC (DEN) – SZLG DSE – Olcote HC (HUN) 6 – 1
Denmark’s Soerbymagle HC won a comfortable victory against Hungary’s Olcote HC. Powered by Captain Jonas Jensen (#9) and Nikolaj Jensen (#10) who scored a hat trick each! A contested game with a few cards, Olcote scored in the in third quarter but Soerbymagle took the 5 points!
Baltic Champs (LTU) – HC Lipovci (SLO) 0 – 2
The host faced off against Lithuania’s Baltic Champs. Thanks to two goals by Martin Mesaric (#3), the home crowd celebrated the win. Baltic Champs worked hard but was unable to convert their efforts into a goal.
EuroHockey Club Challenge IV, Men, Predanovci
Seinäjoki United (FIN) – HC Stick General Toshevo (BUL) 1 – 5
Seinäjoki United met HC Stick General Toshevo for the first match in Predanovci. After scoreless first quarter, HC Stick scored after being awarded a penalty stroke. The first of 3 goals by Petar Katovski (#7), the Bulgarian side continued to dominate and score throughout the rest of the game. In the 60th minute, Seinäjoki scored, but the game was already won.
Napeos Apollon HC (GRE) – Start Berdyscev Region (UKR) 1 – 5
The Greek team Napeos Apollon HC met with Ukrainie’s Start Berdyscev Region for the second match of the day in Predanovci. Start Berdyscev dominated the game, with Petar Katovski (#7) scoring a hat trick. Napeos Apollon managed a goal on the last minute of regular time, but it was a comfortable win for the Ukrainian club.
Floriana Young Stars HC (MLT) – HK Triglav Predanovci (SLO) 2 – 1
Debut game for the host against Malta’s Floriana Young Stars. Floriana’s Mark Camillieri (#3) scored from a penalty corder in the middle of the first quarter to take the lead. A lot of back and forth but no goals for the next two quarters. With the support of the home crowd Triglav’s captain, Tadej Mikola (#11) managed to equalise in the 49th minute. But the respite was short-lived, as Camillieri was there only two minutes later to return the advantage to Floriana thanks to a penalty corner. The Maltese side takes the points!
Women
EuroHockey Club Challenge I, Women, Siauliai
Dinamo-Giproniiaviaprom (RUS) – Douai HC (FRA) 2 – 3
A well-matched first game in Siauliai, Russia’s Dinamo-Giproniiaviaprom met France’s Douai HC. The french girls opened the scored at the start of the second quarter. By the end of the quarter, Dinamo had caught up. After the half time break, Douai came back strong and regained the lead with a penalty corner. Dinamo equalised in the fourth and last quarter, but within 3 minutes, Douai were in the lead again and held on for the last 8 minutes to secure the victory.
Gintra Strekte Uni HC (LTU) – Parc HC Auderghem (BEL) 3 – 0
The host and Lithuanian Champion, Gintra Strekte Uni dominated in the second quarter, and were able to convert two penalty corners into goals. Travelling Belgian supporters made themselves heard and supported their team, but Auderghem were unable to get on the scoreboard. Gintra celebrated their first victory and took the five points!
Navax EuroHockey Club Challenge II, Women, Vienna
HC Rotweiss Wettingen (SUI) – HC 1946 Praga (CZE) 2 – 1
An exciting match to start the Challenge II in Vienna! 1949 Praga opened the score in the 4th minute, only for Rotweiss Wettingen to equalise within seven minutes. The next two quarters passed by goalless, with both teams playing hard but giving nothing away. Rotweiss’ captain, Stephanie Walti (#15) saw an opening and put her team ahead at the start of the last quarter and the Swiss side held on till the final whistle.
SV Arminen (AUT) – Black Boys HC Geneve (SUI) 0 – 1
Local team SV Arminen played a close game against Swiss team Black Boys. The only goal of the game came at the very end of the third quarter, when Macarena Rojas (#6) gave Black Boys HC the advantage, which held until the end.
University of Edinburgh HC (SCO) – Navax AHTC Wien (AUT) 5 – 0
The Scottish side stormed the host, Navax AHTC Wien, with a barrage of goals in the first 2 quarters, making the score 5 – 0 at half time. Navax had the crowd on its side but was unable to recover, and Edinburgh took the points.
Iris Hockey Lambersart (FRA) – Whitchurch Saints (WAL) 3 – 2
France’s Iris Hockey Lambersart met Wales’ Whitchurch Saints in the last match of the day in Vienna. After a goalless first half, Lambersart came on strong in the third quarter with Julie Martinot’s (#16) first goal of the match. But only six minutes later, Whitchurch’s Katy Preston (#14) scored from a penalty corner. A mere minute later, she did it again! Lambersart kept on pushing trying to regain the advantage, and their persistence paid off, with Martinot tying the game, and one minute later, captain Tiphaine Richard (#6) gave Lambersart the advantange with only minutes on the clock. Great and exciting match, Lambersart takes the win!
EuroHockey Club Challenge III, Women, Porto
Nacka LHK (SWE) – HAHK Mladost (CRO) 2 – 3
Day 2 in Porto, with the pools starting to shape up. Nacka LHK met HAHK Mladost, who needed a win after their defeat to AZS Politechnika Poznanska yesterday. HAHK came ready and scored early, twice within the first quarter. But Nacka would not be so easily beaten, and narrowed the lead by scoring in the second quarter. A tight match, HAHK Mladost’s captain, Marina Abramovic (#11) scored in the 36th minute. Nacka again narrowed the lead to one goal by scoring at the top of the fourth quarter but Mladost held strong and walked away with the needed victory.
Copenhagen Hockeyclub (DEN) – Zuverda Tauras (LTU) 0 – 3
Denmark’s Copenhagen HC met Lithuania’s Zuverda Tauras for the last match of the day in Porto. Zuverda Tauras was the one to beat, as they delivered a 6-0 victory over the hosts in their opening game yesterday. Zuverda opened the scored at the very end of the second quarter. They came back stronger for the third quarter, and with two more goals, cemented their victory. Kotryna Kartanovic (#4) scored 2 of the 3 goals for Zuverda. Tauras has now secured a a place in the promotion game. Copenhagen and host GD Viso will fight for the remaining promotion place!
