Hermes-Monkstown take 7th with Complutense finishing 5th at EHCC 2017

5th June 2017: The day started with the lower classification matches, ranking points were at stake, so every games still counts for the players, their clubs and countries here at EHCC 2017. 

7th / 8th – Hermes – Monkstown HC 4 – 4 (3 – 0 SO) CSP Krylatskoye

Huge intent in the early minutes of the game from both sides, as both went on the attack straight away an O’FLANAGAN strike beat the keeper to put ‘town ahead after 3 minutes.

A minute later they were forced to defend a corner and the resulting free in was played to Krylatskoye’s SADOVAIA  as she struck home on the reverse. Taking the score to 1-1 in within the first 5 minutes of the game.

Early into the second quarter Krylatskoye went ahead via a PC strike from KHALIMOVA. Monkstown pressed hard to get the equaliser and earned a PC in the 27th minute, the deflected penalty was touched wide by the Russia defence. EVANS,  at pace scored a sublime goal in the 29th minute striking high almost from the baseline, the score of 2-2 remained into the break.

In the second half the teams exchanged the lead and heading into the final minutes Monkstown conceded again as Russia continued to attack. sss slotted home and brought the game to shootout!

Hermes-Monsktown had an impressive performance in the shoot out, their Irish internationals ready to grasp the nettle, and they did it, scoring 3 without reply, and taking the 7th place.

5th / 6th – C.H. SPV Complutense 3 – 3 (3 – 2 SO) Canterbury HC

Classy goal from Complutense to open the scoring from RODRIGUEZ in the 4th minute.  A pacy KERLY delivered a KERLY  special, a diving back hand into the back corner to bring the game level 1-1 in the 10th minute, and that’s how the score remained at half time.

In the second quarter SANCHEZ-VALVERDE put Complutense ahead 2-1 after a spate of penalty corners as Canterbury were forced to defend. RODRIGUEZ pushed their lead, again from a PC, 3-1, a scramble from PC as the ball rolled over the line.

Canterbury made  remarkable comeback as VANKEMMEL and BALSDON were on target to level the game to 3-3 and force the game to shootout!

Complutense got the better of the shoot out, scoring 3 without reply and taking 5th place at the EHCC 2017.
