Posted On 4th July 2017

4th July 2017: On 5th July 2017 in the town of Walcz, Poland, 14 teams from all over Europe will challenge each other to become EuroHockey5s U16 Champions of Europe!

With 37 games to be played over 4 days it will be indeed a busy few days which all teams are really looking forward to! This event will be a direct qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Buenos Aires 2018, so this is really an extra incentive for the teams to perform at the very highest level at Hockey5s.

The pools have been created using the current FIH World Rankings, this is due to this event being a YOG qualifier:

Pool A is made up of Turkey, who won in Prague 2016, with France, who finished 12th in 2016 and Croatia who finished 10th.

Pool B is headed up by 4th placed (in 2016)  Belarus, Lithuania and hosts Poland.

Pool C Austriawinners in Walcz in 2016 along with 3rd place (in 2016) Wales are joined by Denmark and Georgia make up Pool C.

Pool D 7th placed (in 2016)  Ukraine are the ones to watch in Pool D they are joined by Bulgaria, Finland and Switzerland.

The event opens with Pool games on 5th and 6th July. The top 2 teams in each Pool will progress to the quarter finals that start at 17.00 on 6th with the grand final at 12.45 on 8th July. All teams will play out classification matches over the two final days.

This event however is not just about winning, it is a huge festival of Junior hockey and the Hockey5s complimentary game, demonstrating how the young players can hone their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of a EuroHockey event at an early stage in their international hockey careers! Learning about ‘team’, listening to their coaches, playing for each other and making friends with players from all over Europe.
