EuroHockey5s for U16 girls gets underway

Posted On 11th July 2017

11th July 2017: On 12th July 2017 the EuroHockey Championships for girls gets underway in Wattignies, France.

It will take just 4 days and 23 games to find the winner of the EuroHockey5s Championships for girls here in France.  This event will be a direct qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games which will be held in Buenos Aires 2018, an extra incentive for the teams to work hard to get to the Finals!

The pools have been created using the current FIH World Rankings, this is due to this event being a YOG qualifier:

Pool A

Austria, Belarus, Croatia, Gibraltar and Wales

Pool B

The hosts France take on Lithuania, Poland and Turkey

On 12th July Austria and Gibraltar open the proceedings at 12 noon, followed by Wales v Croatia at 13.00. The third game of the day is Poland v Lithuania at 14.00 followed by the hosts France taking on Turkey at 15.00. Belarus take on Gibraltar (their second game of the day) at 16.00 and the final game of the first days is at 18.00, Austria v Croatia.

The 14th July brings another full day (8 games) of pool games, finishing with Belarus v Croatia on 15th July. Then it’s down to the business end as we head into a Pool C possible relegation pool and the semi-finals on the afternoon of the 14th.

Games conclude on 15th July, the final Pool C starts the day and then the classification to determine teams ranked 1-6, including who has the opportunity to represent Europe at YOG.

Like the fantastic festival of hockey run by Polish Hockey last week, this event is not just about winning, it is a showcase for the Hockey5s complimentary game and a chance for these future stars to showcase their skills.
