19th July 2017: As with the women’s event, today was D-Day for the boys to make it to the semi-finals, so there was a lot at stake for the teams:
Pool A : France v Turkey 7:2
Goals: Coffigniez(2), Jeammot (2p.c.), Lenglet(3, 2 p.c.) – Alta, Demirel(p.c.)
France team was really better in this match and had a deserved 7-2 win over Turkey.
Pourcelet Fabien, assistant coach France said: “We are happy with this game. We had very nice moments and we played all over the field. It was good for us to go to semi-final. We are go up in the tournament. So we are very happy.”
Pool A: Ukraine v Czech Republic 2:2
Goals: Dzemukh, Nechepa – Soukup, Plochy
The match was an equal fight and a draw was a fair result.
Josef Trejbal, player Czech team: “We did beat the Ukraine team, but we are quite happy, because our team in top-2 in the group and going to move forward.”
Oleksandr Frankov, player Ukrainian team: – “We are not pleased with this result – we needed a victory to go for the top four. So now we will play for 5-8 places.”
Pool B: Poland v Italy 6:0
Goals: Sudol(p.c.), Kotulski(p.c.), Nowakowski, Gruszczynski(p.c.), Trojanek, Nojgebauer(p.c.)
The Polish team were far stronger than Italy and the scoreline reflected this, 6-0 and a semi-final slot for Poland.
Adrian Jacek, head coach Poland: – “It was very important match for us, because we wanted to win all matches in the group. Now we are in semi, thanks Russian team for that, because we won yesterday. We will try to win all the matches, because we want to improve us and be the best team in this tournament.”
– What about your plans for tomorrow?
“There is free day tomorrow, so we plan a trip to center to see some interesting places. I know that St.Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.”
Fabio Blom, Italy: – “First, congratulations to Poland, a very good team, played well. What about this game, if we would have 2:0 score the first half and could leave it, but they makes 5 goals – its too much. We made too much weight for ourself. In the second half we change attitude and defended better.”
Pool B: Scotland v Russia 4-2
Goals: Mcquade(p.c.),Cranney, Nairn, Maccenzie – Arusiia(p.c.), Kotkov
After the Polish victory the Russian team had a good chance to get into the semifinals of the tournament. To do this, they had to beat Scotland with a score of 3:0. A tall order for these young players.
With a cheerful start of the match, the teams exchanged goals but the Scots took a hold of the third quarter, and scored 3 times without reply.
Artemov Evgeny, captain Russia: – “Really disappointed with this game and a pity as the fans were here.” Speaking about the rest of the Tournament he said: “Well, yes, there are still games to win. We can not relax yet. We must continue to play and win next games.”
Graham Moodie, coach of Scotland: – “It is probably the best performance. There are really great goals. We go forward very quickly. Great to go in semi-final.”
