Day 4 EuroHockey Junior Championships II , Hradec Kralove

19th July 2017: The 4th day of the EuroHockey Junior Championships II in Hradec Kralove was a full one with 4 games and 4 semi-final slots to be won by the teams! 

Pool B: Belarus – Ukraine 3-1 

The first match of the day was the battle between team Belarus and Ukraine and a battle to reach the semi-finals. Ukraine knew, that the win should be enough to make it to the battle of medals.  It was a very dynamic game from both teams for all of the 60 minutes, but first quarter remained goalless. The first goal of the match was scored by Belarus after a penalty corner in the second quarter and that was how the game stood at half-time.

The second half started in the same spirit as the first one. First chance, and another goal for Belarus – 2:0. In the last quarter Ukraine managed to score their first goal of the match – 2:1. Unfortunately for Ukraine, Belarus had another successful penalty corner and for the last time in the match the score changed. The game ended 3-1

Pool B Austria – Poland 2-0 

The second match of the day was played between Austria and Poland. Team Austria knew, that they must win to reach semi-finals and they had a great start.  Austria scored the fastest goal in the tournament – they managed to score a goal after only 30 seconds. Half-time score was  1:0 for Austria.

Team Poland came back into the second half well-prepared but it was not enough. Austria scored another goal from a penalty corner – 2:0. Team Poland tried to change the result, but in vain. The match ended 2:0 in favour of Austria.

Pool B Final Ranking:

Pool A: Scotland – Turkey 3-0 

The match between Scotland and Turkey was very important for both teams, each one needed to earn 3 points. The beginning of the first quarter offered two penalty corners. The first one wasn’t successful, the second one was turned into the penalty stroke, which gave a lead to team of Scotland. The second quarter didn’t bring any other goals so the score stood at 1:0 to Scotland.

In the third quarter Scotland had an advantage of power-play and they managed to score the second goal of the match – 2:0. Scotland added another and will carry the result into the Pool C relegation pool, which would prove critical to staying in the division.

Pool A: Russia – Czech Republic 2-1

The last match of the day was between Russia and hosts Czech Republic. The first quarter was for both teams hard and ended 1:1.

A closely fought game which Russian just one 2-1, putting them top of Pool A, but the hosts were delighted to make it through to the semi-final.

 

20th July is a rest day for the teams, games resume on 21st.
