Day 5 EuroHockey Junior Championship II, Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic

21st July 2017: On the penultimate day of the EuroHockey Junior Championship II Russia and Belarus were the two teams who progress to the final and who have earned the right to play in the next edition of the EuroHockey Junior Championships top division.

First up though was Pool C:

Pool C: Turkey – Poland 4-2

In the first match of the day Turkey played Poland. The first quarter offered very dynamic hockey from both teams. Turkey took the early lead followed by 2 more. Poland tried to create some goal-scoring opportunities but were unsuccessful. They did however eventually break the Turkish defence and brought the score back to 3-1

Poland came back into the second half strong and came back to 3:2. But unfortunately for Poland, Turkey had another successful penalty corner – 4:2, this was the final score.

Pool C: Scotland-Ukraine 5-3

The second match of the day was played by Scotland and Ukraine. Scotland´s first goal was scored from penalty corner in the first quarter – 1:0. But after that, team Ukraine began to dominate the game, scoring 3 times in 10 minutes. Scotland scored before the half.

In the third quarter both teams tried to take control of the game. Scotland was more emphatic and successfully took the lead – 4:3. In the last minute Scotland clocked up a 5th goal.

Semi-Final: Russia – Austria 11-1 

First semi-final match was between Russia and Austria. In first quarter both team played very good, but Russia was better and scored twice. In second quarter Russia was better in the circle and the score leading into the half was 5-0.

Russia dominated the second half, Austria did get on the board for a consolation goal, the final score 11-1, and emphatic win and they must now go into the final as favourites.

Semi-Final: Belarus – Czech Republic 3-1 

Last match of the day was between Belarus and hosts Czech Republic. Belarus opened the scoring early in the first quarter, it was the only chance of the first half! Belarus proved too strong for the hosts the final score was 3-1.

09:00 UKR – TUR Pool C
11:15 SCO – POL Pool C
13:45 AUT – CZE 3rd/4th place
16:00 RUS – BLR Final
