22nd July 2017: The final Day of the EuroHockey Junior Championship II in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic saw Russia life the cup along with promotion to the Championships!
First up was Pool C:
Ukraine – Turkey 2-1
Last day of the tournament begin with an early morning match between Ukraine and Turkey in the Relegation Pool C . In first quarter the game was pretty even with both teams having equal possession. That changed as Ukraine had the better second quarter, scoring twice.
Turkey rallied in the second half, scoring via their captain, but Ukraine held firm to win 2-1 and finish 6th, keeping their slot in the Championship II division. Turkey are relegated.
Scotland – Poland 3-0
Another important game to determine who would remain in the division as Scotland faced Poland.
Scotland managed to score two quick goals in the first quarter, with many goal scoring chances goinga begging!
A better second half from Poland but when Scotland scored again, it was too much for the Polish team who were beaten 3-0 and are relegated. Scotland finished 5th and secure their slot in this Championship II division.
3/4th playoff: Austria-Czech 2-3
Next up was Austria and the hosts Czech Republic who were still smarting from their semi-final loss. Czech sored first but Austria equalised and then went ahead 2-1. They exchanged goals in the 3rd quarter and finally Czech nipped one in to take the lead and the win.
Final: Russia – Belarus 3-0
A very strong Russian side dominated the final from the start and scored 3 times to no reply to win the Championships II. Both finalists now qualify for the EuroHockey Junior Championship division.
