Day 3 – EuroHockey Championships III, Women and Men

2nd August: Yesterday say another hot day and some really tight games at the EuroHockey Championships III in Sveti Ivan Zelina, Croatia

Men: LTU  3–2  MLT 
Once again the men took to the stage in the first game, Lithuania came out strong and looked like they were going to finish the first half with a two goal lead, but Malta once again showed their fighting spirit and scored in the last minute of the first half. 2-1. Malta managed an equalising goal with a minute left in the third quarter, but Lithuania replied quickly and scored their third goal right at the end of third quarter.

Women: CRO  0-2 TUR 
For the second match a women’s the hosts Croatia took on Turkey. Turkey needed the win as they drew their first game against Lithuania and they did just that. Turkey dominated the first half and scored only two goals due to the brilliant defending by the two goalkeepers from Croatia. In the second half Croatia started to create chances and had a series of 9 penalty corners, but they failed to score.

In the women’s event Switzerland remain in pole position on 6 points.

Men: CRO  1-3 BLR 
Once again the men were on show and the the last match of the day was important for both teams as a win would put them in a great position for the rest of the tournament. Belarus scored two goals in the first quarter and they managed too keep on to the lead for the entire first half. In the second half Croatia turned up the pressure and were rewarded with an early goal. Croatia kept trying but Belarus managed  to score trough a counter attack in the last five minutes of the game. Croatia kept trying to break the Belarus defence but Belarus defended well and won the game.

In the men’s event Italy remain top of Pool A, and this result puts Turkey now in 2nd place. Belarus are leading the charge in Pool B with 2 wins.
