Posted On 7th August 2017

7th August 2017: Meanwhile at the EuroHockey Championship II, Women in Cardiff Pool A was in action. A really tight pool as Italy and Russia lie top with 4 points each and Ukraine are just behind on 3 points.

Match 5: Russia v Ukraine

After securing a 1-1 draw yesterday against Italy, Russia stepped up their game tenfold today; offering an epic 6-0 defeat to Ukraine. After a relatively even start to the match and a half time result of 1-0, Russia showed a lot more aggression towards their Ukrainian opponents. The team capitalised hugely on a hattrick delivered by Bogdana SADOVAIA (#26); her goals were reinforced by a further three from Marina FEDOROVA (#10), Irina OSIPOVA (#12) and Kseniia SVEZHENTSEVA (#8).

Match 6: Italy v France

Italy dominated the game against France this evening; leaving them 3-0 down at half time; thanks to goals from Jasbeer SINGH (#20), Eugenia MASTRONARDI (#4) and Federica CARTA (18). During the first half alongside the 3 goals, Italy also saw 2 green cards; the first of 4 in total.

Throughout the second half, France put the tackles and effort in to regain some control of the game but sadly were unable to pervade the Italian defence. The result after a further 3 goals from Lara OVIEDO x2 (#27), Elisabetta PACELLA (#14) and yesterday’s only goal scorer Valentina BRACONI (#7); a substantial 6-0 win for Italy.
