#FRIDAYFOCUS UDP Group 11 in Barcelona

Posted On 24th November 2017

This report below from the UDP Group 11 participants follows on from our recent #FridayFocus piece on UDP Group 10- Read that report here!

Last month saw the first practical weekend for UDP group 11 take place in sunny Barcelona. After some delays we all arrived at the airport at Friday evening where Jean and Marc picked us up. Sandra, our Spanish group member took us to typical Spanish tapas bar where we all enjoyed the food. After the late diner we were all very happy to see our bed.

After a good night of sleep we were lucky to get the opportunity to umpire 2 games during the weekend, one Saturday, the other one on Sunday. It was an amazing experience to get to know each other on the pitch, to discover the high level of the Spanish hockey competition and to make some new Spanish umpire friends.

After a sunny, warm hockey day we were invited for dinner by Xavi Adell, the president of the Catalan Hockey Federation, President of Hockeyclub Egara and former Olympic umpire. We went to his home in Terassa where his wife Martha cooked an amazing dinner for us. During the dinner we talked about funny experiences during tournaments. You can already hear it, a lot of fun and laughing at the table. We were all very pleased and we enjoyed the wonderful evening. Many thanks to Xavi and Martha Adell!

To close the weekend in style we all met in the center of Barcelona to have a walk over the Ramblas and a last dinner together. Andres Ortiz from UDP group 5 joined us during our trip which was a pleasure! Marc took us to a very nice place called Jardi where we all enjoyed the food and planned our next events. We all went home with some new amazing experiences and memories in our pocket!

We would like to give special thanks to the Catalan Hockey Federation, Xavi and Martha Adell, our mentors Marc and Jean and all our Spanish umpire colleagues!
