10th January 2018: As the floor is laid, the final preparations are finishing an eery silence descends on the Antwerp’s7,000 seater Lotto Arena ahead of the start of the EuroHockey Indoor Championships which take place there on 12th – 14th January.
Top seeds Germany must be favourites having won the Championships 15 of the past 17 years they line up in Pool A with Denmark, Poland and the Czech Republic. Indeed the prospect of a 16th win was enough to lure EHF Hall of Famer Moritz Fuerste back onto the court. World number two Austria are in Pool B with Russia (4th), Switzerland (8th) and outsiders Belgium (16th).
The Belgians will be relying on a strong home crowd to be the ‘7th man’ in the hall. Whilst 5,000 tickets have been sold in a pre-event sale the remaining tickets are still on sale Click here.
The home side features the recently retired outdoor international goalkeeper Jeremy Gucassoff. He is among four Racing Club de Bruxelles men in the squad along with Thibault Cornillie, Pierre-Louis Maraite and Thomas Vanneste while Real Club de Polo’s Max Plennevaux in their line-up for the event.
In their group, Austria – with the goal machine Michael Körper in the mix – look the side to beat.
It will be fast and furious, that’s for sure and we are delighted that all games are LIVE and free on www.eurohockeytv.org with games getting underway on Friday at 10am (CET).
