Day 3 EuroHockey U18 Championships, II, Girls, Rakovnik, Czech Republic

Teams from pool B came in action on day 3 in Rakovnik. Teams from pool A had a well-deserved rest day after their matches yesterday.

Italy v Austria 1-4

The first match was between Italy and Austria. Both teams were looking for their first win of the tournament. The players knew it was an important game towards the classification games. This was reflected in the game. The fans were cheering loud for their team. The first quarter was very balanced. MATOUSEK opened the score for Austria in the 24th minute.  Austria added a second goal two minutes later. Italy came back in the game with a goal just before halftime. The score was 2-1. In the second half, Austria dominated the game and the final score was 4-1 in favour of the Austrian team.

Czech Republic v Poland 2-1

The local team, Czech Republic, played the second game of the day against a strong team of Poland. The Czech team never managed to get a win against the Polish team in the previous years. They were decided to make it happen this time. But it was Poland that opened the score via DIURCZAK in the 15th minute from a penalty corner. The Czech girls were pressing really high to score the equalizer. DUCHKOVA scored just before halftime, which gave a lot of confidence to the locals for the second half. Both teams played some nice combinations. In the last quarter, the Czech supporters believed their team could win the game and cheered them loud. With two minutes left on the clock, HOLUBCOVA scored the winning goal for the Czech. Poland could not score the equalizer before the end of the game. The Czech team was really happy with the win and celebrated with the crowd.
