A feast of EuroHockey Indoor awaits us this weekend (15th – 17th February) as we start our final Indoor journey of 2019. We will deliver 88 Indoor games from all around Europe, 40 of which will be live streamed on EHTV. Not only that but we have a Challenge II for Women for the first time in the 50 years of European Hockey.
This is traditionally the ‘women’s’ weekend but in order to celebrate SV Arminen’s 100th anniversary, it was decided that they could host both the Club Cup Men and Club Trophy women in the wonderful Wierner Stadehalle in Vienna! A fitting celebration for a club with a long and illustrious hockey history.
EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup, Men, Vienna, Austria
We have an incredibly strong field of teams in Vienna, many of which have medalled over the last few years. The target for the teams will
Pool A is comprised of UHC Hamburg, Partille SC, HC Rotweiss Wettingen and AH&BC. The German champions (UHC) are back in Europe after a 4-year absence, but given the usual German dominance in Indoor, there is no doubt they will be in the running for the final. Partille SC is back in the Championship division following a 2nd place in the 2017 Trophy, having medalled (3rd) in 2016, so could be the surprise of the Pool. Last years hosts HC Rotweiss Wettingen will be looking to go one better than last year and make it to the semi-final. Finally AH&BC, with the massive upsurge of indoor hockey in The Netherlands, mainly due to clubs investing in temporary tented indoor ‘halls’ the standard of indoor hockey continues to grow in the largest hockey nation in Europe. With world gold medalist Robert Tigges at the helm with his talisman Teun Rohof also on the team sheet, no doubt they will be pressing for a semi-final place.
A cracking Pool B is made up of hosts SV Arminen who will want to sparkle in front of the home crowd, Racing Club de Bruxelles (the surprise package of 2018 as they took a silver medal) along with HC Minsk, who have just started their 1,200km bus journey to Vienna and finally the Russian Dinamo Stroitel Ekaterinburg, who finished 3rd in 2018 and are looking to improve on that this year and make it all the way to the final.
Most of the games will be live streamed on www.eurohockeytv.org with the exception of the 2 Pool C games on Sunday when the women’s Pool D games will be showcased.
