Match 9: Club Campo de Madrid 5 – 4 Waterloo Ducks HC
First up this morning in Der Club an der Alster in Hamburg were the remaining Pool B games. It was a lively start to the day, with only LMHC Laren in this pool guaranteed a place in the semis at the close of day yesterday.
WatDucks saw an early lead from a De Mot deflect swiftly cancelled out by a goal from Gil, then two penalty corners in two minutes from Abajo Saenz de Tejada, with Sara Barrios firing home to see the Spanish leading at the break 4-1. WatDucks were straight onto the offensive in the second half, pulling the difference back to one with two goals from Ronquetti and Perrocheau by the thirtieth minute. A tense final period ended with a last-minute equaliser from Vouche, which was immediately replied to with a Barrios goal, to give Club Campo the win.
Match 10: HC Rotweiss Wettingen 3- 4 LMSC Laren
The second match of the morning session saw Pool B leaders Laren face Rotweiss Wettingen in a tight game. Laren took the lead through van Asperen, with Trösch replying swiftly for Wettingen. Two more from van Wijk and de Ruiter saw Laren go into the break with a two-goal cushion, 3-1 up.
Trösch got her second of the game to pull Wettingen back into it early in the 2nd half, but a 26th minute goal from de Ruiter (Laren) meant Stomp’s late penalty corner wasn’t enough for Wettingen.
Match 11: GHC Ritm Grodno 2 –3 MSC Sumchanka
It was 10 minutes before the deadlock was broken in the first of today’s Pool A games, with Shevchenko scoring for Sumchanka at a penalty corner. After the break Kurhanskaya pulled one back for Grodno before Sumchanka get the goal they needed to go ahead thanks to Honcharenko. The teams traded goals again to see Sumchanka finish the game 3-2 ahead, for a deserved win.
Match 12: Der Club an der Alster 3-4 Dinamo Elektrostal
The home club took on Dinamo Elektrostal in the final game of this morning’s sessions, in front of a lively crowd. Both teams finished Day 1 with two wins, so this match was crucial.
It was Dinamo that had the best start, with two goals in quick succession from Eroshina and Sanina. Alster pushed back hard, and came close to pulling one back when a PC shot by Emily Kerner forced an incredible save from Elektrostal goalie Viktoriia Aleksandrina. Their offensive play was soon rewarded with a penalty corner rocketed home by Alster captain Viktoria Huse.
The second half started as intensely as the first half finished, with Wenzel coming close to equalising. Electrostal pressed, and thanks to some great defensive work from Makeeva turned over possession and were rewarded with a Sanina goal. In front of an ever-more raucous crowd near the Dinamo goal, Alster netted twice more, first from Valentin and then Viktoriia Huse equalised with a penalty corner with ten minutes left on the clock. An intense final period followed, with a superb goal from Eroshina sealing the win for Elektrostal
