As we continue of countdown to the final EHCC we are delighted to highlight some of the women who will be shining on the pitch in Amsterdam over the Easter weekend.
Ireen van den Assem is the EHCC Ambassador for her club ‘Den Bosch”:
This is Ireen’s 9th season in the black and yellow.
We asked her about the pressure of almost always being Champions, she was clear that it is a team effort to share the load “Together we have a lot of strong shoulders to divide that pressure over. We keep working our asses off and knowing what we’re capable of gives us a lot of confidence. Individually I focus on my own tasks and role first to add my value to our performance.”
She recently did an Indoor season in Belgium with Dragon – how did you enjoy that? “It was a short but super fun adventure, also because I got to play some games with my girlfriend. I think indoor hockey makes you a better outdoor player because it’s good for your fitness, speed, technical and tactical ability.”
When not playing or training she loves to take her mind off hockey and “focus on my other passions: other sports, coaching and marketing communication. I like to activate people, in its broadest sense.”
This will be the first time Den Bosch will face Loreto HC, we asked her how she felt about that and how would she prepare for that “I never played them before but I did play against some of their Irish internationals. Those are probably the players to watch but to be honest we mainly focus on ourselves. We try to get everything out of ourselves and each other to beat every opponent.”
Finally, she was pleased to hear that all the games will be streamed live on www.eurohockeytv.org,
“I think it’s important for anyone to watch and support women’s sport because it’s great fun, inspirational and full of passion and power!”
