Real Sociedad de Futbol SAD makes European history!

Posted On 21st April 2019

With a win over Der Club an der Alster, Real Sociedad becomes the first Spanish team to play in the final of the EuroHockey Club Cup.

Den Bosch v Amsterdam (0-1)

Earlier today in the first match of the day was the big clash between two Dutch teams that know each other perfectly well for a spot in the final. Both teams started the game taking some initiatives to score the first goal. Den Bosch was awarded a penalty corner in the 3rd minute but it was well saved by the Amsterdam goalie. On their first penalty corner of the game for the home team, Vega deflected in the net to put Amsterdam ahead early. A few minutes later, Adegeest’s goal was disallowed as she was just outside the circle. In the 22th minute, Den Bosch had a big chance from the top of the D but Matla’s shot just went over the goal. The host went into the break with the smallest advantage. In the third quarter, with one player extra, because of a yellow card for Den Bosch, Verschoor could just not deflect the pass from Vega after some good work in the midfield. In the last quarter, Den Bosch was pushing hard to get one back but Amsterdam was defending very well and didn’t give anything away in front of their home crowd. The host team made it to the final for the first time since 2014.

Real Sociedad de Futbol SA v Der Club an der Alster (2-1)

The second semifinal was again a tight affair as Real and Alster could both make history if they won.

The opening half was a very even affair as both teams tested each other. Real opened the scoring from a stunning deflection at full stretch on the post, in the 28th minute. Goena the scorer and the score remained 1-0 going into the break.

The second half developed into a tough, physical game as Alster was frustrated by the Spanish defence which held firm in spite of attacks led by Alster’s captain Huse. Real earned a pc in the 44th minute. Again a well-rehearsed routine as Belzunegui struck home from the baseline, assisted by an Alster foot on the line. This will be a well-celebrated goal in Spanish hockey as they went ahead 2-0 against the German’s.

A wild swing from the Real in the 46th goal could have sealed the win, but instead earned Alster a free hit. Alster had all the possession in the 4th quarter and was rewarded as Valentin showed her class with a reverse strike to finally get past Jori who has been superb in the Real goal. Alster pressed and earned a corner in the 50th minute which wasn’t converted. Alster continued their attack, earning two more pcs, but didn’t get a clear shot and again Jori was on hand to clear her line! Alster pulled their keeper for the last minutes, but Real stood strong, bashing the ball clear of defence over the end line twice to count down the clock on history!
