IZIBET EuroHockey Club Challenge IV Day 3 Report

Posted On 8th June 2019

The third day of the Izbet EuroHockey Club Challenge IV finishes with Eagles facing Epitok and Qormi facing Kringsja for the 2 winning spots.

Match 1: Eagles HC 5 – 0 Seinajoki United

Another high scoring match for the Eagles, taking Julian Valerino two minutes to open the scoring, with two more goals in quick succession to close off the quarter in comfortable fashion. Two more goals in the second half sealed the match for the Eagles, securing the top spot of Pool B.

Match 2: HC Kilppari 2 – 2 Kringsja Sports Klubb

Kringsja SK started the match well, with a goal in the first quarter to set them on their way. However, two goals in quick succession by HC Kilppari to turn the match on its head. Kringsja fought back to make it even with minutes to spare, securing second place in Pool B and a spot in tomorrow’s final.

Match 3: Floriana Youngstars HC 1 – 0 Epitok HC

A hard fought match between the two teams, with the heat evidently taking its toll. Floriana pushed hard to break through the Epitok defence, with Andrea Curmi breaking the deadlock for Floriana and proving enough to seal the win.

Match 4: Qormi Daikin HC 2 – 1 HC Luxembourg

A tough match for both teams, with Qormi Daikin needing a win to secure top spot. Luxembourg started off strongly, however it was Qormi who managed to find the net first, only to have it disallowed. Qormi sprung into life in the third quarter, with an intercepted pass between the Luxembourg defence saw the strikers breaking free, getting a penalty stroke in the process. Juan Sarcia duly converted from the spot. Another goal in the final minute of the third quarter from Keith Bajada gave Qormi a two-goal cushion. Luxembourg managed to pull one back through a short corner action, but Qormi held on to the win.
