Hockey Klub Zelina (CRO) – HC 1972 Rakovnik (CZE) 0-6 (0-2)

Day 2 started with the first game for Hockey Klub Zelina at this tournament against HC 1972 Rakovnik, who had won their first game. Zelina started brightly and created chances to open the score but at the end of the first quarter it was Barbora MANKOVA who scored from open play in the 13th minute. Seconds from the end of the quarter Rakovnik got a penalty corner that seemed to have been successfully defended by the Croatian defense. But in literally the last second of the quarter the ball somehow ended up in the Croatian goal. The rebound from the penalty corner didn’t travel more the five meters from the circle so the corner wasn’t over, Iva DANKOVA got the slightest of touches and claimed the second goal. In the second quarter Zelina tried to get back in the game but Rakovnik proved to be too strong for them. They extended their lead with 2 more goals from Iva DANKOVA, who completed her hat trick, at the beginning of the third quarter. Another field goal from Barbora MANKOVA and a penalty corner from Barbora CERMAKOVA was icing on the cake for Rakovnik. This result means that Rakovnik have already secured first place in pool A and will use tomorrows rest day to see who will place against them in one of the finals on my Monday. Zelina and Nacka will decide in a direct game who will be the other finalist.

HAHK Mladost (CRO) – Gaziantep Polisgucu SK (TUR) 2-1 (2-0)

After having lost their first game against the host Gaziantep was out to make up for this loss against day 1 winners HAHAK Mladost. The Turkish team took the early initiative but despite having plenty of opportunities to score in the first quarter the score remained unchanged. It was the Croatian team that scored against the run of play on their first occasion in the first minute of the second quarter. It was Ana COLIC who tapped in a loose ball from close range. Despite Turkish pressure it was the Croatian team that proved more effective extending their lead on the brink of halve time with a goal from open play from Dora LAGANCIC. The game continued in the second halve with the Turkish team desperately trying to get back in to the game and finally their pressure resulted in a goal from Yeter CELIK 11 minutes before time. Gaziantep continued attacking in search for their equalizer and they were loudly cheered on by the home crowd who also felt the Turkish team deserved the equalizer. The experienced Croatian team kept calm and somehow prevailed and held on for the win despite the Turkish team having a final penalty corner attempt in the last second of the game.

Kolos Boryspol (UKR) – Grupo Desportivo do Viso (POR) 6-0 (3-0)

In the final game of the day the home team Kolos took on Portuguese champion Viso. The game started 15 minutes later, a heavy thunderstorm was the reason for the delay. The home crowd saw a one side game with the Portuguese team trying to keep an active home team as far away from their goal as possible and sporadically trying to catch them on the break. After only 6 minutes the deadlock was broke by experience midfielder and former international player Tetyana SALENKO after a goal mouth scramble. At the end of the first quarter another former international player, captain Nataliia VASIUKOVA doubled the home team’s lead. Borispol was clearly looking for a bigger win and work on their goal difference so the game of play continued in the second quarter. Borispol got a penalty corner and Natalia VASIUKOVA converted it for a 3-0 halve time lead. At the beginning of the second halve Anna TANCHENKO scored another field goal to take to score to 4-0. After that Borispol gave some of the younger players their first minutes of the tournament and made a lot of changes. No more goals wear scored in the third quarter. In the last quarter Natalia VASIUKOVA showed the right example by adding two more goals to give the home team a comfortable 6-0 win and taking her to the top of the top scorers table together with Iva DANKOVA and Veronika KOPRIVOVA (both from Rakovnik) all on 4 goals. This result means that Kolos Borispol and HAHK Mladost both have confirmed their places in the finals and on day 3 will sort out in a direct game who takes top spot in pool B.
